Two Errors on My First Try: What I'd Fix First in This Screen Recorder

How long will a new user wait before they see what your product is worth? I tried Screenix, a Chrome screen recorder, as a first-time user. My first export wouldn’t play on my Mac, the Cancel button stopped my recording, and I waited about two minutes for a one-minute video. Here’s what I’d fix first if I were the team.

The Screenix developer agreed to an honest review, so this is my real first run, mistakes included. There’s a lot to like: Instant mode is easy, the Studio mode result looks polished, and $19 one-time is a competitive price next to Loom at $20 a month. But two errors on the first try is the kind of thing that makes people switch to another product.

If I were the Screenix team:

  1. Export a format every Mac and PC can play by default

  2. Let me watch the video the moment I stop recording

  3. Use words people understand (”started debugging this browser”, “Cancel”)

  4. Fix the first run before adding features
